Minimum Requirements;

Who is eligible to teach English in South Korea

In order to apply for an English Teaching position in Korea, you will need to meet all the following requirements

  1. Be a citizen of one of the following countries: Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, United Kingdom, United States or South Africa.

  2. Hold a minimum of a Bachelor's degree in any discipline from an accredited university

  3. Be mentally and physically healthy

  4. Have a good command of the English language;  Native English speakers

  5. Have the ability and willingness to adapt to Korean culture and life

  6. Have not been charged (whether convicted or dismissed) with any offence/crime including Alcohol, substance-related & traffic offences

In order to apply for jobs with public schools (EPIK, EPIK-SMOE), ​100-hour TEFL/TESOL/CELTA certificates are mandatory for those applicants who DO NOT have a B.Ed., M.Ed., teacher's license, or have majored in any form of education.

You may be eligible to apply for positions offering larger salaries if you have one or more of the followings:

  1. A bachelor degree major in English, Linguistics or education

  2. A teaching certificate

  3. An English teaching certificate such as TESOL, TESL, TEFL,  CELTA, etc

  4. At least one year of teaching experience in

  5. accredited institution​TEFL/TESOL/CELTA certificates are mandatory for those applicants who DO NOT have a B.Ed., M.Ed., teacher's license, or have majored in any form of education.

Besides the education qualifications, the ideal English teacher has the same personality traits as a good teacher anywhere else in the world. If you are patient and able to explain things in a simple way, students will feel safe and comfortable in your class and enjoy the learning environment you create. If you enjoy teaching and influencing others in a positive way and find meaning in challenging students to learn and grow, your students will never forget you. If you are adventurous, open to new cultures and lifestyles and enjoy traveling, teaching in Korea may even be your dream job. Also, it wouldn’t hurt if you like spicy food, soups, and

barbeques.
